Coorparoo Aged Care had a June filled with warmth, connection and memorable moments – from a remarkable 100th birthday to rooftop evenings under the Brisbane sky.

A very special 100th birthday

June brought one of the most meaningful celebrations we share as a community – a 100th birthday. Lorna reached this extraordinary milestone surrounded by the people who care for her, and it was a moment none of us will forget. One hundred years of memories, wisdom and a life richly lived – we felt honoured to be part of her special day.

Rooftop takeaway evening

We kicked off the month with a takeaway evening on the rooftop, and it was a wonderful success. Our residents gathered in the evening air to enjoy good food and great company, with the city providing a beautiful backdrop. It is fast becoming one of the most anticipated events on our calendar.

High Tea on level 1

Our High Tea on level 1 drew a wonderful crowd and delivered everything the occasion promises – beautiful presentation, delicious fare and an atmosphere of elegance and ease. Whether it was a first visit or a familiar favourite, guests settled in and enjoyed every moment together.

Stitch and Chat with Marjorie

Our Stitch and Chat group had a special treat this month when Marjorie brought along a collection of her handmade toys to share with the group. The toys were absolutely delightful, and the conversation that followed was just as warm. It is moments like these – simple, personal and full of heart – that make our community so special.

Another rooftop evening

The rooftop proved its popularity again with a second evening gathering that was every bit as lovely as the first. A beautiful evening, wonderful company and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes time together feel effortless.

Sylvia and the Camellia tree

One of June’s most striking images came from our garden – Sylvia photographed beside a two-storey-high Camellia tree in full bloom. Spectacular is exactly the right word. It is a beautiful reminder of the natural beauty that surrounds us here at Coorparoo.

May 2026 at Coorparoo Aged Care

May brought two occasions that meant a great deal to our community. We celebrated our dear Doreen’s 98th birthday, first over the weekend and then again with her family, friends and staff gathered around her. Doreen, you are a joy and an inspiration to everyone here, and we hope the celebrations were everything you deserved.

We also welcomed Rev Catherine from St Stephen’s Anglican Church, assisted by Lyn from the Village, for a really beautiful service. The hymns, fellowship and spiritual support these services offer are deeply valued among us, and we are grateful to Rev Catherine and Lyn for the warmth and care they bring each time they visit.

Alongside these special moments, the familiar rhythm of daily life continued, with morning exercise, games and time spent together in our shared spaces. As autumn drew to a close, it was a good reminder that connection is found as much in the everyday as it is on the big occasions.

Coorparoo Aged Care April 2026

Life at Coorparoo aged care in April; friendly competition, armchair adventures, a moment of solemn reflection, and the kind of easy laughter that fills a room without any prompting…

One of the highlights of April was seeing just how well-attended our morning exercise sessions have become. There is something genuinely uplifting about watching residents show up, move together, and encourage one another – and the turnout speaks for itself.
The energy carried through into our games sessions, where Ping Pong, Connect 4, and Dice Games drew some serious contenders. The competitive spirit was very much alive, but so was the laughter – which, as always, was the real winner.

Our lunch outing this month took an unexpected turn when The Village Bistro was unable to accommodate us – so we headed across to the fish and chip shop instead. As it turned out, it was a decision no one regretted. Sometimes the best experiences are the unplanned ones, and this was a reminder that good company makes any meal memorable.

Life at Coorparoo aged care paused on ANZAC Day for a ceremony that meant a great deal to everyone present. Residents, staff, and families came together to honour the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women through shared stories, quiet reflection, and a moving moment of silence.
It was a reminder of what this day represents – not just history, but the living memory carried by the people in our community who were there, or who grew up shaped by those who were. Lest we forget.

Coorparoo Aged Care March 2026

March gave us plenty to smile about. Our mornings started strong with exercise on Level 4, followed by Target Master, where our winners earnt a well-deserved shoutout. Scout, our four-legged friend, dropped in before an afternoon Strength and Balance class and was very happy to be fussed over.
Birthdays kept the cake coming. We sang for Jenny after morning exercise, celebrated Shirley with plenty of laughter, and surprised Daisy with a big group singalong after her morning activities. The standout was Kath’s 104th, marked on the rooftop with her closest family and friends and a beautiful spread.
The rooftop was busy all month. We shared Communion services with our volunteers from Our Lady of Mt Carmel, including one led by Deacon Paul on Level 5, and we made our own felt shamrocks ahead of St Patrick’s Day. The day itself brought rooftop fish and chips, cool drinks and Irish music.
Our first buffet breakfast on Level 5 saw us served from a generous spread by Chef Karl and his team, and Greek was the pick for this month’s Resident Choice dinner, drawing plenty of compliments. Sendy also kept our succulents thriving with her careful attention.

A Season Full of Stories

Summer brought with it a beautiful mix of celebration and community. We farewelled a wonderful group of Korean nursing students who had spent ten weeks as part of our home, and we welcomed new residents who have already added so much warmth and energy to our days.

Our residents kept busy with daily exercise groups drawing 25 to 30 participants each morning, word games keeping minds sharp and spirits high, and Stitch and Chat afternoons filled with creativity and laughter. Zumba made a much-celebrated return with Olga from Boogiecamp, and there were two rooftop Fish and Chips evenings that, as always, were the talk of the floor.

Highlights Across the Three Summer Months

December was all about celebration. Christmas displays went up on every level of the home, a festive concert with Les from Indigo Dusk had everyone singing along, and our Christmas Eve Happy Hour was a wonderful occasion. Birthdays were shared with Vilma, Greg, Joy, Noel, and the remarkable Valda, who turned an extraordinary 103 years old.

January eased us into the new year with meaningful moments. Ahead of Australia Day, we created beautiful hand-tracing artworks inspired by traditional dot and pattern styles. Stitch and Chat was in full swing, and Olga’s return for Zumba drew a huge and enthusiastic crowd.

February was a month packed with birthdays, outings, and wonderful everyday life. We celebrated Jill, Estelle, Marie (who was turning 99), Barb, Nick, Maureen, Lula, Dianne, and Lyn. A lunch out at The Village Bistro turned into a very special occasion, and friendly games of Bocce, exercise sessions, and another rooftop Fish and Chips evening made for a full and happy month.

Meet Kath – 104 Years Young

This edition features our remarkable resident Kath, born in Adelaide in 1922, who celebrated her 104th birthday this summer. Kath’s story – from working in factories during World War II, to selling fine clothes at David Jones, to dancing twice a week and going on ten cruises after her husband passed at 90 – is one of the most extraordinary you’ll ever read. Her advice? Travel more, be kind and thoughtful, and enjoy every single day.
